Veranda Magazine
Good Bones
April 2025
Of all the lifestyle publications with a focus on the home, Veranda has emerged as the exemplar in this field. The byline on Veranda’s masthead is an appropriate one, “Where Exceptional Taste Lives.” Needless to say, we here at JP Weaver Co. are quite thrilled for our inclusion in their “Good Bones” article in the current issue.
The article produced by Veranda’s Style & Market Director Rachael Burrow Rummel is a celebration of the eight preeminent companies with both focus and passion for old house hallmarks such as plaster moldings, marble mantles, ornamental wood paneling, and more. As Rachael points out, “These are eight studios that are restoring and re-creating heirloom decorative details for the houses of tomorrow; artisans fueling a modern crusade for historic craft preservation.”
The article goes into the details of our historic roots dating back to 1914 with our company founder (see JP Weaver - Our Story) bringing the revered ingenuity of master European artisans of ornamental architectural molding to the U.S. She also mentions our California-based workshop not only repairs old friezes and ceiling crowns, but also re-creates archival motifs like acanthus leaves (see photo) in a composition of wood rosin, whiting, and linseed oil. Affectionately, we refer to this material as “compo” - See JP Weaver Compo Handbook.
“Classical Chutzpah” is how Rachael describes our artistic élan. We here at JP Weaver Co. would hardly disagree, but in the same sense are well aware that confidence is invariably coupled with an innate understanding of not only our vision, but most importantly that of our clients. And we certainly welcome the opportunity to work with yours.
