Although admittedly our design mainstay leans largely towards French, we are occasionally given something outside of our wheelhouse and relish the opportunity to explore new motifs and ideas. Such was the case when Beverly Hills designer Bryce Amato of his eponymous Amato Design reached out with a unique ceiling design for an estate in the flats.

Bryce’s clients were seeking something distinctive and dimensional for the ceiling in the grand salon of their home. With over thirty years in the business, Bryce Amato has never shied from a design challenge and brought in a superb graffiti artist whom he had collaborated in prior projects, Daniel Toledo.

Together they drew up the concept of a floral collage on a giant scale; all of the elements to be made in cast plaster. The design was marvelously original and imbued a sense of a bold panache that could serve as a wonderful counterpoint to an otherwise traditional interior.

Now the execution would prove to be ambitious. The challenge to create the carvings for the models, insuring the delicate petals and their undercuts could be practically made while maintaining the intricacy of this contemporary plaster design.

Bryce reached out to us here a JP Weaver and worked exclusively with one of our extraordinary designers, Angela Isayan. Angela brought in a master carver who she has worked extensively with in the past. He did an extraordinary job, as did our president Rob Tyler in prepping the models for molds and castings.

We don’t normally showcase our work before completion, but wanted to share with you some of the progress shots to perhaps cast a light on the myriad of choices in the design process; not always a straight path. We welcome any ideas you might have for your project, and as demonstrated here, please don’t consider your personal design concept impossible to achieve simply because it falls outside of accepted norms. As Coco Chanel once said, “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.”
