Weekend Away at “La Cuesta Encantada”

This past weekend, our President, Rob Tyler, and his wife Karen, had the privilege and honor of attending Veranda Magazine’s first “Power of Preservation” Historic Forum at Hearst Castle. It was a wonderfully orchestrated event that brought together some of the best and brightest in the field of preservation work.

Everyone arrived on Friday night. After getting settled, things moved right along with a brief tour of some of the Hearst warehouses in San Simeon, followed by an elaborate dinner. Various introductions were made and the tone was set for this elegant weekend. Saturday morning started bright and early, packed with an array of engaging activities.

There was an inspiring selection of guest speakers who delved into some of the niche areas of preservation, ranging from paint to furniture. There were also interesting tours of Hearst Castle and the surrounding outbuildings, all the while complimented by breathtaking views. A guided historical tour of the nearby town of San Simeon also added to the events available. In the evening, they attended a lively community get-together on the terraces of the castle. The night was then finished with a cowboy-themed party at the ranch house complete with live western music.

Sunday morning was topped of with a peaceful kayaking excursion along the picturesque California coast. An incredibly knowledgeable guide highlighted many of the natural wonders of San Simeon Bay, greatly adding to the whole experience. This concluded the weekend, which was quite an impressive occasion.
